Multiplex PCR theranostics of severe respiratory infections.

چکیده
Scope of the problem Acute respiratory tract infection is the leading cause of hospitalization for infants and young children in developed countries, and a major determinant of death in developing countries. In 2002, lower respiratory tract infections accounted for approximately 4 million deaths worldwide and 7% of all deaths that year [1]. Therefore, there is a huge need for new diagnostic tools that enable the detection of a broad range of respiratory pathogens, especially those that are difficult or impossible to obtain by conventional culture methods.

The Frequency Distribution of Parainfluenza, Adeno and Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infections in Children below 2 Years Old with Bronchiolititis, by Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction Method, Afzalipoor Hospital, Kerman, 2006
Background & Aims: Acute respiratory infections are common cause of mortality during childhood. This study was designed to determine the incidence of adenovirus, parainfluenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus in respiratory infections by Multiplex PCR method. Methods: This study included 168 children under 2 years of age with clinical diagnosis of bronchiolitis. Nasopharyngeal specimens we...
متن کاملMultiplex SYBR Green Real-Time PCR Assay for Detection of Respiratory Viruses
BACKGROUND It is often difficult for a physician to distinguish between viral and bacterial causes of respiratory infections and this may result in overuse of antibiotics. In many cases of community-acquired respiratory infections, clinicians treat patients empirically. The development of molecular methods for direct detection of viruses has been progressed recently. OBJECTIVES The objective ...
متن کاملIdentification of respiratory virus in infants with congenital heart disease by comparison of different methods.
Respiratory virus infections are the main cause of infant hospitalization and are potentially severe in children with congenital heart disease (CHD). Rapid and sensitive diagnosis is very important to early introduction of antiviral treatment and implementation of precautions to control transmission, reducing the risk of nosocomial infections. In the present study we compare different technique...
متن کاملDevelopment of Multiplex Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction for Simultaneous Detection of Influenza A, B and Adenoviruses
Background and objective:Millions of people in developing countries lose their lives due to acute respiratory infections, such as Influenza A & B and Adeno viruses. Given the importance of rapid identification of the virus, in this study the researchers attempted to design a method that enables detection of influenza A, B, and adenoviruses, quickly and simultaneously. ...
متن کاملThe role of multiplex PCR in respiratory tract infections in children.
BACKGROUND Infants, toddlers, and children of primary-school age without any special risk factors generally have three to ten febrile respiratory infections per year. Most such infections are of viral origin and self-limiting, but viral infection is often hard to distinguish from bacterial infection. The use of a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect viruses in respiratory secreti...
